Temmy Latner, of blessed memory, the loving and iconic matriarch of the Latner family, grew up in the old Jewish section of Toronto near Spadina Avenue. In her early years, she dedicated herself to all things artistic and became an expert at needlepoint, specializing in Chuppas and Tallit Bags reflecting her impeccable taste. She went on to celebrate her wedding in 1949 at the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue, then on St. Clair West. Her connection to Jewish life in this part of Toronto runs so deep that it is only fitting that our shul and community centre be built in her memory at St. Clair and Spadina. She lived Jewish values through and through, and along with her husband and best friend Albert, she devoted herself to many Jewish causes and institutions. The quality of her character and the warmth of her giving nature are her ultimate legacy. The Temmy Latner Forest Hill Jewish Centre ambitiously strives to uphold that legacy, and bring warmth, light and community to the greater Forest Hill neighbourhood.
